Information about GCSE reforms

All subjects taught to GCSE level will have new style GCSEs introduced across the next 3 years which have extensive changes to their content, level of demand and assessment methods as well as having grades that are awarded as a number from 9 to 1 where 9 is the highest grade.

A summary of how this affects students  by year of leaving school is below.

Year of leaving Horbury Academy Qualifications awarded
2016 Last year group to sit current GCSEs in each every subject. All grades will awarded as A*-G.
2017 First year group to sit the new GCSEs in English language, English literature and maths. These subjects will have 9-1 grades. All other subjects will be awarded with A*-G grades
2018 English language, English literature, maths, Science, History, Geography, MFL, Computing, Art and Design, Drama, Food and Nutrition, Music, PE and RE GCSEs will all be the new specifications with 9-1 grades. All other subjects will remain as A*-G. 
2019 All subjects will be the new specifications with 9-1 grades.
