Student Support Facilities

Student Support

At Horbury Academy we have a Student Support area for students to use as a first port of call for general enquiries, support and medical needs. The Attendance Team and Medical Team are based here with Student Receptionists on hand to answer students' questions. This may be anything from losing an item of clothing, forgetting a piece of equipment or needing to contact home, getting directions to a room or to report a confidential matter.

The ICAN Centres

The following areas form the ICAN centres, named to promote that all students can achieve.

Inclusion Centre

This is where the Special Educational Needs Team is based. The Inclusion Centre is a dedicated area for students to go to and also where some students have some of their lessons. The SEND Team leads on support for confidence, social skills and developing speech and language difficulties. In the case of children with defined special educational needs or a disability this may involve extra support and resources, different materials or access to specialist staff. Within the Inclusion Centre the SENCo, Child Protection Officer, Educational Psychologist and Teaching Assistants offer support and intervention for students in an environment in which they feel safe.

Impact Centre

This Centre is situated at Parker Road off California Drive. Owned and staffed by Horbury Academy but also used by other local schools to educate students who are at risk of exclusion, currently on fixed term exclusions or are unable to access learning in the main Academy. Within the Impact Centre staff plan and deliver tailor-made timetables of learning activities and restorative practice mentoring aimed at getting students back into mainstream education and to reduce future exclusions. Police Liaison Officers and external agencies also visit the Impact Centre to help support the development of students.
