When will students sit their exams?
We have taken the decision to split our exam entries across Years 10 and 11. This allows students to focus on fewer subjects at the end of Year 11 and we have made this decision due to the increase in both the number and length of written exams in the new GCSE courses.
Students currently in Year 8 will sit their exams as below:
Summer 2019 (End of Year 10)
- English Language
- Two option subjects
Summer 2020 (End of Year 11)
- Maths
- Science – either Separate Sciences or Combined Science
- English Literature with an option to resit English Language
- EBacc options – 2 from History, Geography, French, Spanish
- 1 further option subject studied in Year 11
Students currently in Years 9 and 10 will sit their English Language exams at the end of Year 10 and sit all other subjects' exams at the end of Year 11.
How do we prepare students for exams at the end of year 10?
We ensure that students are ready to sit their exams at the end of Year 10 through a range of strategies. These include specific programmes of study with increased challenge in Key Stage 3 mapped against the GCSE specifications, Regular Pre-Public Exams and detailed feedback across Year 10, parental meetings, additional after school lessons, holiday revision sessions and targeted intervention with specialist staff.
