PiXL Edge

Success and Achievement are not the same thing. Achievement is something that is reached or attained, like an examination result or other goal. It is something tangible, clearly defined and measurable. Success, in contrast, is a feeling or a state of being. The PiXL Edge aims to bring together the development of the whole person, developing confidence, and ultimately success, in young people.

At Horbury Academy we are always looking to improve and we want our students to follow our footsteps and strive to be the best they can be. The PiXL Edge programme will allow them to develop and be accredited in the five key attributes essential for employability and adult life.

Each student needs to complete two activities from each of the five key attributes to achieve the "Apprentice" status.

1.  Leadership (red path)

2.  Organisation (green path)

3.  Initiative (purple path)

4.  Resilience (blue path)

5.  Communication (yellow path)

Progress towards achieving these five attributes can be checked by students logging on to the PiXL Edge website using their personal log on.  Students are introduced to the PiXL Edge programme in Year 7 and will start to log their activities and provide evaluations for each one. We hope this will encourage them to get involved in as many extra-curricular opportunities as possible both in and out of Horbury Academy, some of which they may have never even thought of taking part in before now.

There are numerous activities which students can be accredited for; from something as simple as attending extra-curricular clubs to organising a small fundraising event in school for charity. Each curriculum area in the Academy has identified some key activities that could be completed by students.  We will be rewarding pupils for reaching certain milestones with the number of activities logged. We will also reward those pupils who show perseverance and true determination to complete activities. Competition for University places and employment today is ever increasing and the PiXL Edge programme can help students stand out from the crowd.

We invite all Parents and Carers to be part of their unique journey by encouraging your child to talk to you regularly about their progress and achievements with the scheme. We want to ensure that your child leaves our Academy not only with the best qualifications possible but with a variety of personal attributes allowing them to stand out from the crowd and achieve their goals for later life.
