GCSE Results 2017

This summer our Year 11 students achieved excellent examination results - well above national average, with 79% gaining the new grade 4 or above in English and the same in Maths.

Students have achieved fantastic grades in all subjects with some students achieving a clutch of A* and 9 grades placing them amongst the highest attaining nationally. We are also delighted to celebrate the success of students at all grade levels and know that many of them achieved their “personal best”.

Students in Year 10 sat their English Language GCSE in the summer and just like Year 11, their results are brilliant.  We are extremely proud that despite studying a new GCSE for just a year, they achieved results that place them at national average.

As you can imagine, we’re all very proud of their success…. In fact, if you’re reading this, a huge well done to you for being like Cliff!! Keep up the good work and good luck in everything you do from here!

Welcome Year 7!

It’s only been a matter of days but our new Year 7 are already looking happy and settled in their new school! Here’s what some of them have had to say so far….

“The teachers are nice and friendly and I’ve liked the lessons I’ve had so far” Maja Jakubek

“I’ve enjoyed Maths the most so far but I haven’t had PE or ICT yet. I like it here already” Ben Usztan

“I’ve enjoyed History the most as my teacher is funny!” Trinity Jones

“All the teachers have been very helpful, helping me to find my way to the classrooms” Joseph Wild

I appreciate that some students don’t find the transition from Primary to Secondary easy but they’ve all been very brave and have all survived their first week! Oh and speaking of Year 7, I’m very impressed with the effort that went into their holiday homework! Here are some examples…..

Dressed for success

Not only do our students look all rested and refreshed, I’m really pleased to see how smart they look – long may it continue!

Going forward please continue to remember that skirts should be traditional knee length and there should be no trainers, extreme hair colouring or facial piercings. You can find more information about our uniform policy here - and remember ties are available to buy directly from the Academy.

Dates for your diary

If you want to make a note of our key dates for this academic year, check out our online calendar, and for quick reference our term dates are also listed here.

Horbury Academy Open Evening 2017

This year, our annual Open Evening is set to take place on Wednesday 20th September 2017, between 5pm and 8pm.

As in previous years, the academy will close to students at 12.10pm so that staff and student helpers can prepare for the many visitors that will be attending our Open Evening later on that day. There will be no lunch service provided on Wednesday 20th September, except for those students on Free School Meals who should collect their lunch from the catering staff at morning break.

Unfortunately, we are not able to change the time of the Academy special buses and these will come into the Academy as normal at the usual times. I apologise for any inconvenience that this might cause and if you are experiencing real difficulties please contact your child’s Head of Year and we will do our very best to find a solution.

Although Open Evening is primarily targeted at parents of students currently in Years 5 and 6, there are always large numbers of our own parents who want to see our facilities and resources and find out what we are doing in lessons here at Horbury Academy - you are most welcome to attend. Can I please remind all of our current students that they can only attend Open Evening if accompanied by their parents, unless they are taking part in one of our Departmental activities.

Finally, parking will be an issue for many parents as we have very limited space to park on the Academy site and these spaces will be taken up by staff who will be present at Open Evening. Can I suggest therefore that if you live in Horbury you may be better to walk as road parking spaces will be in very short supply. If you live outside of Horbury then public transport may be a better alternative.

I look forward to welcoming you to our Open Evening and hope that you have a very enjoyable experience!
