Relationships and sexual health

Thanks once again to Spectrum Community Health who visited our Year 9 students yesterday to talk about relationships and sexual health.

Care to make a difference?

We’re working in partnership with Barnardo’s Positive Identities Service as part of the Department for Education’s Anti- Homophobic, Biphobic and Transphobic Bullying Fund 2017-19 and as such have become part of Barnardo’s LGBTQ Allies Network. To support this work we will be looking to form a student Ambassador group, to be in place by March. Please could any students interested in being a part of this group make themselves known to Miss Gibbs by the end of the month. We’ll be sure to update you further once this group is in place.

Let’s get Nicole to the Big Bang Final!

You’ll remember me telling you about Year 9’s Nicole Hirst who was recently shortlisted for the Big Bang Final’s ‘UK Young Engineer of the Year 2018’ award. Well, in order to cover the expenses that come with getting to this three day final in Birmingham’s NEC, we’ll be fundraising next week with a raffle (for adults) and a guess the name of the teddy and number of sweets in the jar, for all ages. It’s 50p per guess and the names and numbers will be revealed on 26th February. Raffle tickets are £1 each and will be drawn on 14th February. To take part, visit the LRC during break or lunch time. Good luck!

And finally…

A huge well done to Dan Rigby who has been selected as a finalist for the Young Sportsman of the Year Award in the Leeds Sports Awards - Disability category! Dan and his England Under 15 Power Wheelchair Football Team are also finalists in the Young Team Award category! I can’t wait to hear how you get on at the award ceremony on 1st March, Dan!

Our very own Lewis Costello is set to take on the ‘Brave the Shave’ challenge next Friday in the hope of raising money for the RFL Benevolent Fund, following the sudden and tragic death of his good friend.

Lewis has already surpassed his initial target of £500 so he’s upped it to a whopping £700! Help him on his way, or find out more here

Sending congratulations and our love to Miss Cooper and her family on the arrival of baby Charlie. What a lovely way to end this week's blog!....
