Year 8 Parents’ Evening

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Year 8 Parents’ Evening yesterday. As ever, it was an invaluable opportunity for us to discuss how we can work together to support your child in their studies to help them to fly high!

Drama students’ bewitching evening!

Last night, 60 GCSE drama students from Years 9 to 11 visited the West Yorkshire Playhouse to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, where they joined Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter for the most mystical of adventures to a faraway land where it’s always winter, but never Christmas!

C.S. Lewis’ classic tale leapt off the page and on to the stage and the opportunity to watch the live performance will hopefully prove valuable to all students as they work towards their exams.

The slopes are calling!

With less than a month until take off, 42 students and their parents/carers came together on Wednesday for the final information evening ahead of the forthcoming trip to Sansicario in Italy, where students will be skiing on the famous “Milky Way”!

Mr Lloyd, Mr Hanby, Miss Young, Miss Tyrrell and Miss Midgley, who will be accompanying the students, shared information about the itinerary which, as well as five hours skiing each day, will include ice skating, swimming, bowling and a pizza evening, as well as visits to the towns of Grenoble and Briancon.

We’re already looking at resorts for the 2019 trip and students in current years 9 and 10 can expect to receive invitation letters at the end of February.

A reminder of our expectations

Unfortunately, there have been several recent incidents where students have not come equipped for PE, which you’ll appreciate, causes much disruption to lessons. Here’s a reminder of our expectations….

  • correct Academy PE Kit must be worn by all, including non-active participants
  • you must hand in any notes/planners regarding injuries or kit issues straight away
  • any borrowed kit must be put back on the rail or in the basket to be washed
  • repeated failure to bring the correct kit will result in further sanctions
  • refusal to wear spare kit will not be acceptable.

Thank you, as always, for your co-operation.

Dates for your diary

A little reminder of some key dates for this half term…

  • Friday 16th February: Inset day, closed to students

And finally…

Good luck to Lewis Costello as he sets out to Brave the Shave in front of his rugby team mates at tonight’s training session! I’ll be sure to share Lewis’ fundraising total, along with some photos in next week’s blog!

Our new after school club ‘Scratch Club’ has started but it’s not too late to join us! The club, which will teach you how to use scratch coding for animations and games, takes place in the LRC from 2.45pm to 3.45pm every Thursday.

Remember our LRC is challenging students to read a series of 12 books, after which they can collect a stamp and a prize! Call into the LRC and speak to Mrs Fisher about the reading journey!
