Headteacher's Blog 19 - Thursday 4th February

Thank you to everyone for your support this half term. It may only have lasted five weeks but it’s certainly been jam-packed! From Ofsted Inspections, to Pre Public Examinations and pantomimes, both staff and students have kept themselves busy.

Spotlight on STEM

Some of the activities students are involved in have been showcased this week in our STEM Newsletter. For those of you who didn’t manage to get a paper copy you can read the newsletter here.

Key Dates for Your Diary:

Looking ahead to next half term, some key dates for your diaries are listed here.

PPE Results Morning – Students in years 10 and 11 will receive the results from this week’s Pre Public Examinations on Thursday 18th February.

Headteacher’s Drop In – These Open Door sessions take place on Thursday 18th February from 9 – 10.00 a.m. and again on Thursday 10th March from 5.30 – 7.00 p.m.

Options Evening – This takes place on Thursday 25th February. Students in years 8, 9 and 10 have all been issued with letters this week about the event. Please take time to read the information and even if your child has been through the Options process once or twice already, I urge you to attend. This is because there are major changes to GCSEs that affect your child. Make sure that you understand what these changes are by attending our Options Evening. If you have not received the letter, check the letter’s page of our website where there are copies.

Lion King – Our annual production takes to the stage on Tuesday 1st, Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd March. Don’t forget to buy your tickets well in advance as seats are limited due to the staging of this production.

World Book Day – Our annual day for dressing up as characters from books takes place on Thursday 3rd March. Miss Kirk will be attending assemblies during the first week back after half term to launch this year’s theme and various competitions!

Cineworld Reward Trip – Takes place on Friday 4th March. Letters have already been distributed to those students who currently qualify for this trip. Please note, that a student receiving a C5 (Impact Centre) or Fixed Term Exclusion from now until the trip will be removed from the reward trip.

Year 7 Parents’ Evening – Will take place on Thursday 11th March from 4.00 p.m. – 7.00 p.m. More details about how to book appointments with class teachers will follow after half term.

Pre-Public Examination Series 3 – Students in year 11 will have further PPEs on beginning Friday 11th March up to and including Thursday 17th March. Letters with timetables will be issued to students after half term.

Sports Relief – Friday 18th March will see the Academy endeavour to break all charity fund raising records!

And finally …

Goodbye to Mrs Whitelaw who leaves us as a Learning Mentor and to Mrs Jones who begins her maternity leave. We wish both of them the very best of luck and look forward to sharing Mrs Jones' baby news soon.

I hope you all have a very happy and relaxing half term holiday. I look forward to welcoming all students back to the Academy on Monday 15th February with their five a day, school shoes and excellent attitude to learning.
