Headteacher's Blog 31 - Friday 18th May

Spotlight on Attendance

Congratulations to Year 8 Australia and Year 9 Hong Kong, for being fabulous and achieving 100% attendance last week; I hope you enjoyed your goodies.

A reminder to all parents and carers that attendance makes a difference!  Please, also remember that holidays in term time will not be authorised unless they are for exceptional circumstances – check our policy on our website for details.

Master Chef Competition

Our annual Master Chef competition was launched this week.  Every year, I am amazed by the delicious food on offer and the beautiful presentation. If any student hasn’t received an application form, please do ask your form tutors or House Co-ordinators for one.

Something for the weekend!?

Year 11 don’t forget that we’ve got your weekends covered – tomorrow from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. join the maths teachers for some magical maths.  On Sunday come and join the English team and I as we explore “The Tempest” and “Jekyll and Hyde” from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and then round of your day with physics from 1 p.m. – 3.30 p.m.

Just think – attendance means stamps and stamps means prom!

Food Glorious Food

Our talented Wakefield Hospice fundraising team, will be selling ice lollies after school on Wednesday and Thursday.  Priced at £1 all proceeds will go towards the Hospice.

Breakfasts will continue next week for Year 11 students prior to their exams (I’ve heard that the bacon sandwiches are particularly good!)

Go Go SQUEEZ…We are trying some fruit jelly (apple or apple and strawberry) and yoghurt pouches (banana or strawberry) next week. You can include one of them in your grab bag choice or sandwich meal deal for £2.10 or priced individually for 70p.

Why not go Thai on Tuesday, choose from either beef masaman curry or Thai green vegetable curry, sticky rice and wok oriental vegetables for £1.90. Both menus count towards two portions of fresh vegetables for your five a day……. Add a smoothie, cuplet juice or water include tray bake, fruit or mango and passion fruit meringue to make up £2.10 meal deal.

You spin me “right round” …

A tenuous link in the title perhaps – but this week we saw the start of the rounders season as we held our fixtures against Ossett and Outwood.  Year 7 - drew with Outwood 8/8, and beat Ossett 7 /6! Year 8 - lost to Ossett 13 /12 – extremely close matches for all involved, well done!

I also learnt about two extremely talented sport stars who are involved in sports outside of the Academy.  Dan Rigby achieved top goal scorer in his regional league and Championship National League (see Dan below proudly holding his silver and gold certificates!) and good luck to Isabella Spiers who represents Yorkshire in gymnastics this weekend.

While the nation might be gripped tomorrow with thoughts of a Royal Wedding or FA Cup Final spare a thought for our very own group of Girl Guides who will be getting a royal experience on Tuesday when they help out at Prince Charles’ birthday party!  Good luck to Alice Whitehead, Ariana Cossins, Holly Brook, Charlotte Woodhouse, Pheobe  Vercilli  and Jemima Murray – bring me back a piece of cake!
