PiXL Edge Celebration

We had a fabulous afternoon on Monday, hosting the PiXL Edge Celebration Event, the aim of which was to bring schools together to celebrate the collective success of students in our region.

It was an opportunity to watch some fantastic students receive their limited edition PiXL awards; to listen to some inspirational speakers including our previous Head Boy, Kieran Audsley; and to take in some exceptional musical performances, as you can see below!...

A taste of Horbury Academy

This week, we’ve welcomed students from Years 5 and 6 from our primary feeder schools for their Taster Days and it’s been lovely to see so many new (and smiley!) faces! Students were able to sample a variety of lessons and get a feel for our Academy.

Year 5 students also took part in a maths roadshow where they were tasked with completing 12 activities over a period of five minutes, before moving on to the next. The activities centred around problem solving and the abstract use of maths to solve problems including; Towers of Hanoi, Pentominoes, the Die Hard measures of water problem and Tangrams, to name a few! Here’s what else they got up to….

And now for a snapshot of Year 6’s day!....

Year 7’s busy week!...

Year 7 students have had a very busy week this week – travelling to Ypres in Belgium, then to the Deep in Hull, as well as Yorkshire Sculpture Park!

Whilst in Ypres, students visited the recently refurbished “In Flanders Field” Museum, which presents the historical story of the First World War in the West Flanders front region, as well as the town’s famous Belgian Chocolate shop…where, as you can imagine, they had a fabulous time!

…Not to mention Year 10’s!...

Year 10 haven’t had a quiet week either!... They spent Thursday at Accord Sixth Form and Friday at Pontefract New College having a taste of options post-16!

Accord Careers Week

As I explained in my last blog, this week we’ve hosted our Accord Multi Academy Trust Careers Week. Students from both Horbury and Ossett Academy have been looking at different careers and their progression routes from the subjects they study.

A message from our Enterprise students…

Written by Lucy Squires, Hollie Bradbury and Morvyn Gardiner-Mackie

We have been working extremely hard towards the charity Bike-a-thon event for the past year. It has been a very exciting process with lots of different steps in order to make it work. It has been eye opening to the amount of work and dedication needed to make events like this happen. However, to know we have worked so hard to help others is an amazing feeling to have. To know that this money will be making a difference makes all the hard work worthwhile. We hope we have made a positive impact on some of the patients’ lives.

Raffle tickets will be available to buy next week with proceeds going to Wakefield Hospice – some of the prizes are listed below….

  • Domino’s voucher
  • Gym membership passes
  • Laser Quest passes
  • £10 nail voucher
  • A free photoshoot
  • Chocolate hamper
  • £10 Tesco voucher
  • £10 Kaye Arms voucher
  • Swimming and skating vouchers
  • Go Ape passes
  • Books

….and much more!!

This will be taking place alongside the bike-a-thon and a bake sale on Thursday 19th July. Make sure you remember your sponsorship forms!
