 Tireless Tuesday!

This Tuesday was packed full of exciting events for our students including a pizza party for Year 7, an Xscape trip for Year 8 including movies and bowling, and a graduation ceremony and party for Year 10 graduates! (Don’t worry, we didn’t forget Year 9 as you’ll soon find out!).

Congratulations to everyone who graduated and received their certificates and Year 11 ties and a round of applause to the flawless vocalists who performed during the assembly!

Good old British weather!

Sports Day took place on Wednesday and despite the weather warnings for the day it stayed dry!! Well done to everyone who took part and to Africa House in particular who topped the leader board!

Year 9’s trip to London

Yesterday I got to accompany our Year 9 students on a trip to our capital city! Students chose whether to go to the theatre, a Wembley stadium tour or sightseeing. My group went sightseeing, visiting the Millennium Bridge, St Pauls, Westminster, Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and Covent Garden!  We took walked and shopped until we could walk no more!

All of the students and staff had a fabulous time and students were a credit to the Academy.

International day and final celebrations

Yesterday was our annual International and STEM day which brought the Academy to life with an array of cultural activities including art, craft, dance, and sport workshops from around the world!

This morning students’ creations were displayed in the Atrium for all to see… what talent we have at the Academy!

We’ve also had a staff lip sync battle this morning, much to the students’ delight (!) and final House assemblies to finish off this academic year, during which Europe was revealed as the winner of the House competition!

Pancake fundraiser

Last Friday, Morvyn Gardiner, Holly Auty and Holly Hicks made and sold pancakes to raise money for the victims of the Manchester Arena terror attack. They did really well, raising £24.60 for the Peer Support Yorkshire charity who we have been working with in recent weeks to support students and staff affected by the Manchester terror attack. Well done girls!

Fond Farewells

This time of year is always a mixed one for me – as we inevitably we say goodbye to some valued members of staff who are leaving from promotions or as in the case of Gina Broadhead to travel the world! For two very special members of staff it is time for them to retire after over thirty years of dedicated service to the students at Horbury Academy.  With a heavy heart and with huge admiration for them both I bid farewell to Dave Matthews and Pam Lindop.
