Headteacher’s Blog 22 – Friday 4th March

Have you ever?

Have you ever seen a rabbit on dinner duty?  Have you ever seen Snow White complete an experiment in science?  Have you ever seen a bottle of George’s Marvellous Medicine walk, talk and teach?

I have!

Thanks to Miss Kirk organising a fantastic World Book Day, staff and students were able to see all of this and more.  We held our breath throughout the day as we were entertained by instalments of the short story, The Monkey’s Paw, were baffled by the pictures on the “You CAN judge a book by its cover” quiz and delighted by the array of costumes worn.  Well done to our prize winners and thanks to everyone for reminding us all of the importance of reading.

The Importance of Attitude to Learning

Despite the snowy weather, I have been to cinema with over 700 students this morning.  Why?  Every student who came to cinema has achieved less than three zeros in their Progress Checks this academic year.  They have also upheld the expectations in our Behaviour Policy.

All our evidence shows us, a positive Attitude to Learning, equals excellent examination results.

The countdown to Alton Towers began in January – remember, ATL counts.  Five or more zeros and you will not be on the bus in September.  Be positive – make learning count!

But, the rewards don’t stop with trips.  Are you aware that students with no zeros in the ATL scores are entered into a prize draw that takes place every Progress Check?  Congratulations to the following students who received “I love to shop” vouchers:

Year 11:Sophie Shaw, Rhianna Ward, Dionne Hemingway,Connor Wilkinson and Alistair Redmond

A Roaring Success

The highlight of my week, however, has been watching “The Lion King.”  As always I was stunned by the talent of the students at the Academy, both on and off the stage.  I know that others feel the same as I have been lucky enough to receive a number of emails from parents, carers and grandparents thanking Miss Fisher and her team for their hard work in rehearsing and preparing the set.

Thank you to everyone involved – you were incredible!

And finally…

Don’t forget it’s two weeks to Sports Relief!  Make sure you are getting plenty of sponsors so that you can "Pay to Participate"

And Year 11 PPEs start on Friday – remember, be like Cliff Young, work hard and don’t give up!
