GCSE preparation

Here are some questions, frequently asked by parents/carers, put together to support your child with their revision.

  • Question: What are Period 7s?
  • Answer:  These are timetabled revision classes held in the Academy between 2.45-3.45pm. Students have been allocated to attend these based on his/her performance to date. Period 7 is always taught by subject specialists.
  • Question: Will my son/daughter get opportunity to attend holiday revision classes?
  • Answer : A revision holiday timetable will be communicated soon via social media and the Academy website. These will take place during both Easter and Spring Bank breaks.
  • Question: When will I receive progress information on my son/daughter in future?
  • Answer : The next progress report will be issued at the end of the PPEs in mid-March (stating the PPE grades achieved) and again at the end of April. These are given to your son/daughter in the Academy.
  • Question: My son/daughter has Period 7 for English, Maths and Science, but are other subjects also available?
  • Answer : Extra revision for other subjects is available. Please email enquiries@horburyacademy.com for when this is taking place, if required. Please see your son/daughters timetable in their planner to know which member of staff you require.
  • Question: How much revision should my son/daughter do?
  • Answer : We recommend 20 minute sessions of revision. Several of these a day targeting gaps in knowledge, identified on PLCs, is advised. PLCs are Personal Learning Checklists. All students have these in their exercise books.
  • Question: What websites are available to help my son/daughter revise?
  • Answer : Websites that are useful are on the attached PowerPoint Presentation. This also includes subject specific hints and tips for revision.
